Adolph F. Schumann, age 90, longtime Eyota resident, died in his home on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010.
Born March 12, 1920 in Eyota Township, Olmsted County to Fred and Christina (Pries) Schumann. Adolph graduated from Eyota High School in 1938. He served in the United States Army Air Corp, 13th AF, 42nd Bomber Group in the Pacific Theatre as Navigator/Bombardier, 52 missions flying B-25 airplanes from 1942-1945.
He married Rotha Hanenberger, June 2, 1945 in Rochester at Peace United Church of Christ. They celebrated 65 wonderful years together. The couple farmed north of Eyota. In 1982 they moved into the town of Eyota and continued to farm in partnership with their son, James.
Adolph was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He served many positions on the local church boards as well as serving on the United Church of Christ MN Conference boards. He served on the Dover-Eyota School Board for 28 years. He was a member of the Eyota American Legion for 64 years and was a past commander. He had served on several local, regional and state farm organizational boards, and was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors included, his wife Rotha of Eyota; children, Lynn (David) Theurer of Winona, Dean (Nancy) Schumann of Eden Prairie, Minn., James (Kathleen) Schumann of Eyota, Dorothy (Thomas) Highum of Brainerd, Minn., and Karen (Ronald) Stark of Newton Square, Pa. 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Alfred (Margret) Schumann, Eyota, and Milton (Rosella) Schumann of Rochester. Two sisters, Maxine Kaehler of St. Charles, and Eileen (John) Traeger of North Mankato. Proceeded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Woodward.
Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ north of Eyota. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., a Masonic Lodge service will be at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
