Served in Civil War 1 yr in Navy, re-enlisted in the 39th NJ Volunteers in 1864 for the entire balance of war till Appomatox,received Honorable Discharge. Served as Commander of the Kearny-Sheridan Post & was Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in Newark 1919,1923,1927.Served as an Executive Board Member of the National Council GAR & Vice-Commander in Chief of the National Body.Also served as Commander of the Veterans Legislative Committee& commander of the Veterans Alliance from1920-1926.Named Commander Emeritus of that organization.Given the Honorary Title of Colonel.Colonel Allan is actually buried under his step-fathers name since he joined the service using that name & all pension info is under that name. He was actually William Ogden Hoffman.
