Hillery Carson Kerley was tragically taken from this world December 11, 1959 in a mining accident in Thoreau, McKinley County, New Mexico. According to newspaper reports, a half-ton rock slab fell on him while he was working the uranium mine in Western New Mexico. Hillery was born in Mercer's Gap, Comanche Co, Texas. Mercer's Gap is now considered a ghost town in Central Texas.
