OBITUARY
Judge George Bent was born in Middlebury, Vermont, March 29th, 1827. In early life he removed to Cincinnati, Ohio and later to Galesburg, Illinois.
He graduated from Knox College later spending a year in Yale Theological Dept. graduating later at Andover.
He was married in 1853 to Mary P. Payne. Six children were born of this marriage, two of whom died in infancy. His youngest son, Arthur S. Bent well known here died Sept. 11th, 1911. His second son, Charles, passing away April 8th, 1912. He is survived by his eldest son George P. Bent and his daughter, Hattie M. Bent of Chicago.
About thirty years of Judge Bent's life was spent in the Congregational ministry, holding pastorates in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.
He was one of the very early settlers in Sherman county taking land here in the seventies. One of the first post offices of this locality was Bentora of which he was one of the early postmasters, afterwards serving two terms as county judge of this county. Mrs. Bent died August 17th, 1898.
