Joseph VanDeKeere, age 88, of Bremen, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born in Mishawaka, Indiana, on June 24, 1917, to Julius and Emma VanDeKeere.

A lifetime area resident, Joseph was a farmer. He attended St. Dominic Church in Bremen, belonged to the Holy Name Society, Eagles and Falcons of Mishawka, Madison Township Lions Club and was a member of the Farm Bureau.

On January 3, 1942, he married Angela (Zircher). She preceded on December 28, 1986.

Survivors include a daughter: Janet (Ed) Abbott of Bremen, 1 son: Paul (Phyllis) VanDeKeere of Bremen. 5 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Michaela) Abbott of Bremen, David (Susan) Abbott of Dallas, Texas, Lisa (Jeffrey) Sents of Woodstock, Georgia, Dawn (Todd) Werk of Zionsville, Indiana, and Scott (Heather) VanDeKeere of Saint Mary's, Ohio. 4 great grandchildren, 1 sister: Mary DeMetz of Wakarusa, 2 brothers: Raymond VanDeKeere of Wakarusa, Frank (Betty) VanDeKeere of LaGrange, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Angela, 1 daughter: Rosemary Schmitt, 1 granddaughter, 4 brothers: Art VanDeKeere, August VanDeKeere, Charles VanDeKeere and an infant brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 10:30AM, at Saint Dominic Church in Bremen. Father Polycarp Fernando will officiate. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, February 20, 2006, from 5:00-8:00PM at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen and 1 hour prior to the service at Saint Dominic Church.

Memorials may be made to the Lions Club or Saint Dominic's Church.
