Cicero Alexander Rust, Jr. of Blanco, Texas, was born September 28, 1915, in the Hill Country near Buzzard Roost southwest of Blanco and passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010.

On an evening threatening thunderstorms, on May 7, 1936, Cicero eloped with Olla Danz, of Stonewall and Johnson City, daughter of Louis and Ottilie Dora Jacoby Danz, from a bluff on Miller Creek near Johnson City.

Cicero ranched, indeed. He drove livestock to market by horseback in authentic trail drives, whether to the railroad station pens in San Marcos or to the Union Stockyards in San Antonio. He shipped cream from his milk cows by train to Kansas. He sold chicken eggs. He picked cotton for processing at the cotton gin mill in Blanco. During many fruit seasons "Mr. Cicero" (as Lady Bird Johnson nicknamed him) was found in the retail room of the Gillespie County Fruit Growers in Stonewall. Primarily, he raised Angora goats and Black Angus cattle.

As a youngster, Cicero attended the Mount View School, located within a stone's throw of his childhood home southeast of Blanco. Cicero served as an election judge for many years in Blanco County. Cicero, a prayer warrior, was a member of First Baptist Church of Blanco, which he joined by baptism on January 11, 1976. Prior, at the Blanco United Methodist Church, he sang in its sanctuary choir, served as a trustee, and championed membership and evangelism. September 20, 1986, was proclaimed Cicero and Olla Rust Day, by Charles Scott, County Judge, Blanco County, Texas. Cicero was a friend of the local EMS; the Blanco Volunteer Ambulance Corps presented him a plaque for his support in 1996. On August 1, 1996, the Forest View North Neighborhood Watch Association presented him a Certificate of Appreciation. On May 1, 1997, Honorary Citizenship of Johnson City was bestowed upon Cicero by Kermit Roeder, Mayor.

Survivor is son Cicero Alexander Rust III. Cicero was "Grandpa" to Mike Moraign (wife Lacey, daughter Courtney, step-son Josh) and to Sam McDougall (wife Jennifer Lauren, daughter Savannah). Numerous nephews and nieces survive.

Cicero Rust was preceded in death by his wife of 69 1/2 years, Olla Danz Rust, who passed away November 30, 2005; his parents, Cicero Alexander "Doc" and Frances Wuest Rust; his brother, Garland August Rust and his wife, Estella Martha Danz Rust.

A celebration of Cicero's life will be held Monday morning, December 27, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Blanco with Bro. Darrell Fishbeck officiating. Trevor McGuire, guitarist, will offer the prelude; he and Vickie Pautz, pianist, will play Canon in D for the recessional. Soloists will be Rachel Culpepper Wheat, Laura Flint, and Judy Dorsett; Judy's Home on the Range will conclude the graveside service on the Rust Family Ranch. Margie Latham will coordinate the visitation in the Rust Family Chapel. The Rev. Lemae Miller Higg's will deliver the eulogy.

Pallbearers will be Mike Moraign, Sam McDougall, Allison Cox Klein, Henry Salazar Jr., Celestino "Choppy" Romero Jr., Kenneth Moore, Dennis Moore, Larry Moore, Carolyn Bindseil Patterson, Rev. Dr. Danny Murray, and Joe Tiller. Honorary pallbearers will be the J.W. "Sonny" Smith Family and the Jim Odiorne Family. Greeters will be Bobby and Jeanette Fishbeck.
