OBIT: The Paris News, 18 Dec 2006 --- Valarie Wages Sanders, 98, of Paris, formerly of Lydia, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at Paris Regional Medical Center. A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Lydia Cemetery near Avery in Red River County with the Rev. Glynn Vickers officiating. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. She was born Sept. 20, 1908, in the New Hope Community of Bowie County, to Elbert Hardy 'Bud' and Emma Belle Smith Wages. She married Ballard Sanders on March 29, 1924, in DeKalb. He died on Sept. 21, 1985. She worked for many years at the Red River Army Depot. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Her family was her pride and joy and she took great delight in cooking for them. She also was an avid gardener and enjoyed the beauty of her time spent in her yard. She was preceded in death by her son, Alvin B. Sanders in 1993; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her two grandchildren, Delana Secrest and husband, Mike, of Sumner and Boyd Sanders and wife, Angie, of Reno; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Secrest and wife, Emily, of Irving, Matthew Sanders and Megan Sanders of Reno; one sister, Novell Landers of Hooks; her daughter-in-law, Donnie Sanders McDowell of Blossom; and several nieces and nephews.
