Jay Pope Dickerson, 87, of South Janice Lane, an officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department before his retirement in 1961, died Thursday at the Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Dickerson, an Army veteran, moved to this area in 1924 from Pineview, Ga., his birthplace. He was a member of Tomoka Christian Church, and the Daytona Beach Fire/Police Retiree Association, and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed horses.

Survivors include his wife, Irene S.; a son, Terry A., Holly Hill; a daughter, Janice D. Hayes, Ormond Beach; a sister, Ruby Sloan, Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home, 1900 Mason Ave., Daytona Beach 32117. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.
