Major League Baseball Player. Born in Troy, New York, he was a catcher making his debut with the Philadelphia Phillies on April 25, 1932. For eleven seasons, he played with the Philadelphia Phillies (1932-35), Pittsburgh Pirates (1936-38), Brooklyn Dodgers in 1939 and Chicago Cubs (1940-43). He ended his career with a record of 768 hits, 35 home runs, 366 runs batted in, a .276 batting average and a fine .980 fielding percentage. He died at age 83 in Horseheads, New York.
