Chillicothe, Mo. — Our beloved dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great grandpa Earl Herman Holt, 93, had an angel come take him by the hand and take him to be with our Lord in Heaven on Dec. 6, 2010 at Harbour Health Center in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Earl was born on Sept. 26, 1917 in Rogersville, Mo., of Bert Francis and Lula Bertha Peck. He had five siblings: Roy, Carl, Richard (Dick), Hermie and Beula. His parents and siblings have preceded him in death.

He lived in Missouri until the age of 7 when they moved to Nebraska. When he was in his teens, they moved to Utica, Mo., where he met the love of his life and married Pauline Erma Kerr in 1936. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union: Gary in 1938, Helen Jean in 1939 (who died as an infant), Richard in 1943 and Sharon in 1946.

He lived in the St. Joseph, Mo., area most of his adult life and worked as a dairy farmer. Then, at the age of 50, he and Pauline moved to Salisbury, Mo., near his son Gary and family, where he became a high school custodian.

His beloved Pauline died in 1981 after a battle with cancer.

In 1988, Earl retired from Salisbury High School with 20 years of service. During his retirement, he enjoyed being with his family and doing his hobbies of gardening and yard work.

In 2002, he moved to a senior's apartment near his daughter and son-in-law in Overland Park, Kan. For the past several years, he enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with his daughter and son-in-law.

In 2008, Earl became a resident at Harbour Healthcare Systems in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was the president of the resident council and enjoyed many friends there.

Earl's life can be summarized by his strong belief in and love for his God, his family, truth and hard work.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Holt (Kay) and Richard Holt (Linda) and a daughter, Sharon Tisdale (Bill), nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Earl's wishes, there will not be a scheduled visitation. A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 29 at the Utica Cemetery, Utica, Mo. All family and friends are welcomed.
