........Florence Emma McLane Beard
.......Death of Mrs. Fremont L. Beard
...Mrs. F.L.Beard, of this city, died in the hospital for the insane at Fulton, Missouri, October 20, 1905, aged 41 years, 4 months and 15 days.
...Deceased was born in this county June 5, 1864 and grew to womanhood here. She was the daughter of Daniel McLane, an old time resident of Union Township, but of recent years a resident of Cantril, Iowa. June 22, 1883, she was united in marriage with Fremont L. Beard. Of the this union two daughters were born, Misses Mabel and Hazel, who are bereft of a mother at a time in life when they most needed her care, counsel, and love. She was converted and united with the church at the age of 19, and from that day up to the hour reason was dethroned she was faithful to every church vow and a zealous worked in the Master's vineyard. About three years ago symptoms of an unbalanced mind developed and she was treated by local physicians for a time without any apparent improvement. Then she was taken to the state hospital for the insane at Fulton, MO, where she was cared for and treated for about two years. Everything known to medical science was used by the hospital physicians in the treatment of the deceased, but as the days and months passed she grew gradually worse until death came as a release last Friday. Her husband went to Fulton, Friday night and brought the body back for interment, arriving Sunday noon.
...The funeral services were held in the First M.E.Church, Monday afternoon, Rev. J.W.Anderson officiating, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Memphis Cemetery. It seems sad indeed that a woman so devoted to church work and religious duty had to be call to her reward, whether reason was thus clouded, but the Supreme Ruler makes no mistakes in dealing with his children. To die was surely gain in her case.
...She leaves to mourn her death, a husband, the two daughters name, who are still in their teens, father, stepmother, four brothers, and four sisters, her own mother having died when she was 4 years old.
To the sorrowing, one and all, this community tenders sincere condolences.
