She was born October 20, 1946 in Springfield, IL to Louis H. "Newt" and Wilma M. Ley Staley. She married Jim Gardner on February 14, 1999 and he survives. Also surviving are her mother Wilma M. Staley of Springfield; 1 step- daughter, Stacey Gardner; three sisters, Jane Staley of Springfield, Laura (Steven Goldstein) Staley of St. Louis, MO and Rita (Kevin) Gallagher of Flossmoor, IL; one sister-in-law, Cindy (Steve) Dahlhauser and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Susan was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and UIS. She was a lifelong Democrat and a Precinct Committeewoman; she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Aerie Auxiliary. She loved to play bingo and was a resident of Springfield her entire life. She worked for 42 years for the State of Illinois, the past 35 years for the House of Representatives.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home
Burial: Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date
Susan's ashes will be buried on May 21st, 2011.
