He was born May 28, 1889, at Lincoln, Mo., one of 12 children born to August and Elizabeth Hesse Mueller. He moved to McFarland in the early 1900's and Alma in 1947. Mr. Mueller was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at McFarland until 1962 when he transferred his membership to St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. Mr. Mueller owned and operated a grocery store in McFarland 27 years. He later farmed before he retired in 1962.
He was married to Sophia Gehrt Nov. 6, 1912, at McFarland. She died in September 1961. A son, the Rev. Elmer Mueller, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Loma Hughes, San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Mildred Herren, Alma; three sons, Vernon Mueller and Herbert Mueller, both of Alma; and Kenneth Mueller, Elk Grove, Calif.; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at McFarland. Mr. Mueller will lie in state from 1 p.m. today until noon Friday at LaMar-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma and after 1 p.m. Friday at the church.
