AGED WOMAN PIONEER OF PRICE GOES TO HER REWARD
Written For THe News By E.S. Horsley

The funeral service over the remains of Mrs. Sidse Hartsell, formerly Mrs. Sidse Rhoades, was held in the city hall Tuesday, Counsellor Oliver J. Hannon conducting the same. The speakers were ERnest S. Horsely and Levi N. Harmon, of thi city, and P.K. Hansen of Ephriam. All spoke of the many good traits of her character and the genial dispostion she possessed.

Mrs. Hartsell was one of the pioneers of Price, arriving in the spring of 1883 at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Bertha P. Olson, and her cousins, Peter and Seren Olson. She was born at Tune, Roskold, Demark [sic], April 1, 1856, and was the daughter of Jense and Margaret Hanson Peterson, and emigrated from Denmark early in 1883, coming direct to Price. She was baptized a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints September 28, 1883, by Caleb B. Rhoades, and in November 1884, became his wife.

Mrs. Hartsell endured many of the privations incident to pioneer life, and without a murmer she often walked from the farm, about three miles from town, to attend meetings. Her husband, Caleb B. Rhoades, died June 2, 1905, leaving her alone to manage the affairs of the farm. She had no cdhildren. Later she disposed of the farm and moved into town, where she has resided for the past four or five years.

She has been a sufferer with stomach trouble for a number of years, and underwent an operation for same this last spring, returning to her home feeling much better, and on the 17 day of August, this year, was married to John E. Hartsell, and moved out to Lake Fork, Uintah county. After a few weeks she was taken ill and returned to Mount Pleasant, going to the Hansen hospital for treatment, and underwent an operation, which proved that she was suffering with cancer of the stomach. Some ten days later she passed away, on the 9th of October, after all that could be done for her by skilled, kind and loving hands.

She was laid to rest by the side of her former husband in the Price cemetery, to await the call to come forth in the morning of the resurrection, the grave being dedicated under the direction of Bishop Albert Bryner.
