Entertainer. She was a member of the Von Trapp family of singers, who escaped Nazi-occupied Austria and found success in America. Their story was told in the Broadway musical and Oscar-winning film "The Sound Of Music" (1965), in which she was portrayed as Liesl, the daughter who was "16 going on 17". Johanna Erwina Gobertina von Trapp was born to Baron Georg von Trapp and his first wife, Agathe Whitehead. After their arrival in the US the family recorded with RCA Victor and Decca Records, and went on to tour 30 countries. Agathe also participated in the operation of the Trapp Family Lodge and summer music camp in Stowe, Vermont. When she withdrew from singing after a 20-year career, she was active as a painter and illustrator, and later helped run a kindergarten near Baltimore, Maryland until her retirement in 1993. She wrote a memoir, "Agathe von Trapp: Memories Before and After the Sound of Music" (2004).
