Bobby Watson of Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Springfield, died Friday night in Hollywood at the age of 77. Watson is best remembered for his performances in several World War II Movies as the man who portrayed Adolf Hitler. He played a major role in the original New York cast of "Irene" from 1918-1921.

He was the son of William and Clara Watson Kuecher. He began using his mother's maiden name of Watson as his own because of confusion over the pronunciation of his given surname. He was known as a versatile "character actor" and played the role of Hitler in more films (nine) than any other actor.

His will directed that he be cremated with the ashes placed in his mother's grave at Oak Ridge.
