John Joseph Edds was born November 21, 1891 in Elmendorf, Bexar County, Texas, to Jesse Winfred Edds and Gertrude Charlotte Montez. John stood 5ft. 7in. tall, had dark eyes, black hair and a dark complexion. He was married to Lorene Garcia. There were no children listed. John was a deputy sheriff in Wilson County, Texas, in 1913.

He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER on September 15, 1915 thru March 31, 1916, as a private in Co. D. He then resigned. He worked as a Customs Inspector until he again enlisted in the REGULAR RANGERS on January 1, 1918 thru December 10, 1921 as a sergeant, Co K.

In June 20, 1919, he reenlisted under the new law and transferred to Co. D. He was a mounted Customs Inspector and lived in Floresville, Wilson County, Texas. He held various law enforcement jobs in the 1920's. He ended his career as a guard at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.

John Joseph Edds died February 24, 1956, in Bexar County, Texas. He was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, San Antonio, Bexar County Texas.(by Nancy E. Brown)
