Cremains interred in grave with husband Palmer D. Quinby. Dorothy A. Quinby June 12, 1908 - March 9, 2007 Dorothy A. Quinby, 98, formerly of McKittrick, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007 in Santa Barbara where she had resided for many years. A graveside service will be held at West Side District Cemetery in Taft at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007. Dorothy Angeline was born on June 12, 1908 in Mendocino and was the second child born to James Miles and Dovie Pickle Gwin. The family moved to the Taft area where she attended Olig School and Taft High School. She married Palmer David Quinby and they owned and operated Quinby Oil Company in McKittrick for many years. Dorothy was active with the American Red Cross, Tennis Club, and Organ Club. She and Dave built a small vacation home in Arroyo Grande and later lived on Grand Ave. in the Fair Oaks area of Arroyo Grande. She enjoyed camping and fishing with Dave. The couple later moved to Santa Barbara where they were active participants in the Organ Club and LaFiesta. After Dave passed away, Dorothy stayed active, enjoying her family, learning Spanish and volunteering. Dorothy is survived by two nieces, Alice Erlene Manalo of Bakersfield and family, Mary Lou Stewart of Grover Beach and family; and nephew, Jim Gwin of Ashland, Oregan and family; sister-in-law, Bobby Gwin of Porterville; Dave's niece and nephew, Phyllis Specht of Pasadena and family, and Paul Armstrong of Yorba Linda and family. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Palmer David Quinby 1971; sister, Erma Louella; brothers, James Wilber, Chester Earl, and Lawrence Delbert. Memorials in her honor may be directed to a favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach.
