Otis H. Burden, 96, longtime Cushing resident, died Saturday, June 4, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cushing Christian Church with the Rev. Sonny Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Burden was born Dec. 14, 1908, in Avery to Alfred Burden and Mary Katherine Rice Burden. He was raised and educated in Avery and later in Shamrock, graduating from Shamrock High School. He married Olive Mae Ryan on Aug. 16, 1930, in Bristow. The couple moved to Cushing in 1938, and he had lived there since. They had four children, Billy, Bobby, Kelly and Richard. Burden's wife died Aug. 22, 1992.

Burden worked for many years as a tank builder and following his retirement took up farming full time. He attended Cushing Christian Church. He was a member of the Boilermakers Union and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, receiving two purple hearts. He enjoyed reading, raising cattle and studying his Bible on a daily basis.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three sons, Billy, Bobby and Richard; one brother, Oland Bernard Burden; one baby brother, Francis Webster Burden; and one baby sister.

He is survived by one son, Kelly Burden of Drumright; one brother, George Burden of Woodland, Wash.; four grandchildren, Shelly Goff of Bryan Texas, Melanie Osterhout and her husband Phil of Drumright, Brian Burden and his wife Krista of Cushing and Pat Burden of Cushing; five great-grandchildren, Brandy Breedlove and her husband Josh of Broken Arrow, Leon Goff and his wife Amber of Tulsa and Kelsey Burden, Blake Burden and Drake Logan Burden, all of Cushing; and two great-great-grandchildren, Zoe Breedlove of Broken Arrow and Leon Goff of Tulsa.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends, including the many caregivers that took care of him over the last several months.
