ALGOOD -- Funeral services for Thomas F. Eaves Sr., 68, of Cookeville, will be held at 7 p.m. on Thurs., Dec. 23, at Algood Church of Christ, 395 W. Main St., Algood. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. on Fri., Dec. 24, at the Garden Mausoleum in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, with James Cossey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until time of services on Thurs., Dec. 23, at the church.

Mr. Eaves died on Tues., Dec. 21, 1999, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 17, 1931, in Chattanooga to the late Fearl and Fannie Ruth Fore Eaves. Mr. Eaves was a minister since 1952 and a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the Air Force. He was the Chaplain (LTC) of the Civil Air Patrol and the Cookeville District of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Mr. Eaves was the Chaplain and Drug Education Officer for the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

Mr. Eaves was a Mission Evangelist recently under the Elders of the Lenoir City Church of Christ, and he worked in the Philippine Islands and the countries of Canada, Pakistan, Russia, the Ukraine, Hungary and India. For many years he was involved in training young men to become gospel preachers.

On August 29, 1954, he married the former Patricia Kirby, who survives.

In addition to his wife of Cookeville, his family includes a son, Thomas F. (Tommy) Eaves Jr. of Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and David Atkins of Hilham; a sister, Mary Jo Sanders of Nashville; a grandson, Justin Parker of Colleyville, Texas; a stepgrandson, Anthony Atkins of Hilham; and nieces and nephews.

Thomas F. Eaves Sr., longtime Putnam Sheriff's Reserve Deputy and chaplain for police agencies here, died this morning.

Eaves, 68, of Carmel Dr., Cookeville, was suffering from illnesses he had struggled with for some time and died early this morning in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He had been a Reserve deputy and chaplain for the Putnam Sheriff's Dept. and also chaplain for the Tennessee Highway Patrol for several years and had also conducted many public school lectures on the dangers of drug abuse.

"He was as good a presenter for that type of program in our schools as I ever saw," Putnam Sheriff Jerry Abston said.

"He also did a good job as chaplain and helped a lot of officers through some hard times. He will be missed."

He was the husband of Patricia Eaves.

Funeral services are tentatively set for Thursday, Dec. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Algood Church of Christ, according to Robert Gribble of Anderson Funeral Home of Gainesboro. Anderson is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation is set for Thursday, Dec. 23, from 2 p.m. until time for the services, Gribble said.
