Funeral service for Fern Nerdig, 86, of Buffalo Center will be held Wednesday at 10:30a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. William Peake officiating. Marlene Krull, organist, will accompany Rev. Gary Marzolf, soloist. Casket bearers will be Roger Nerdig, Gary Nerdig, Michael Nerdig, Don Gruis , Rodney Swanson, Vernon Hanken, James Faber, David Schlitter and David Olson. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Buffalo Center. Winter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Fern L. Nerdig, daughter of Stephen and Katherine (Hum) Wentworth, was born March 14, 1907, on a farm near Thompson. She attended school in Buffalo Center. January 14, 1925, she married August H. Nerdig. Through the years, they lived on farms near Rake. March 1980, she moved into the Bison Apartments and in January, 1993, she became resident of the Lake Mills Care Center, where she died Nov. 27, 1993.
She was a member of the Ellis Point Methodist Church, loved music and sang for many weddings and funerals.
In 1956 she and her husband joined the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center where she was active in choir and ladies aid.
Survivors include her three sons and their wives, Dale and Elaine Nerdig of Forest City, Harvey and Rosie Nerdig of Buffalo Center, and Larry and Sharon Nerdig of Forest City; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one sister-in law, Martha Wentworth of Thompson.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband who died May 1, 1975; two children, Richard and Katherine; three sisters, Pearl, Ginny and Olive, and five brothers , Ray, Harry, Hank, Marion and James.
