Funeral Services Held for W.R. Chappell
Minco Minstrel, June 1955
Funeral services for W.R. Chappell were held Sunday 2:30 P.M. at Baptist Church (Minco). Rev. Luther Berry assisted by Rev. J.J. McDaniel officiated.
Music was furnished by a double male quartet, John Unruh, Herman Gray, Lee Stinchcomb, Roy Koerner, Charles Pickett, Noble Barling, Marvin Woodworth and Clyde Hughes. Miss Nancy Osborn accompanied at the piano. They sang "Beyond the Sunset", "Sweet Bye and Bye" and "When They Rang Those Golden Bells".
Pallbearers were John Barber, Dudley Horn, George Tidwell, J. K. McKelvey, W. C. Martin and Jim Horn.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Home.
William Robert Chappell was born Jan. 10, 1875 in Huntsville, Arkansas. He passed away May 27, 1955 at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 17 days.
In the year 1880 (1881) he moved with his parents to Springtown, Texas. In 1895 (1894) he moved with his family to a farm west of Union City, Oklahoma.
In the year 1908 (1909) he was united with the Hazel Dell Baptist Church where he was an active member until he moved to Minco in 1944 where he united with the Minco Baptist Church and remained an active and loyal member until his death.
In August 1900 he was united in marriage to Susie H. Kirkpatrick at Union City, Oklahoma. They moved to a farm west of Minco in 1905 where they lived until 1944 when they moved into Minco where they resided until his death. To this union were born six children, one of whom preceded him in death in March 1910.
He leaves to mourn his death - his wife Susie of the home; two sons Clarence Chappell, Minco, OK, Garland Chappell, Santa Ana, CA; three daughters Mrs. Gene Pond, Santa Ana, CA, Mrs. Helen Armstrong, Minco, Mrs LeRoy Albers, Midwest City, OK.
Three brothers -- James, Clinton, Steve, Piedmont, Bud, El Reno.
Five sisters -- Mrs. Eva Dunkle, Banner, Mrs. Maude Smith, El Reno; Mrs. Bertha Bennett, El Reno; Mrs. Addie Culwell, Springtown, TX; and Mrs. Lois Knarr, Oklahoma City.
Also a host of other relatives and friends.
He was the oldest of 15 children, 7 of whom preceded him in death.
