William came with his parents to Ohio from Washington Co., PA about 1816 and purchased land near the present site of Millersport from Alexander Holmes. Thomas Cherry was a Revolutionary War Soldier.
"The Official Roster III Soldiers of the American Revolution who lived in the State of Ohio,published by the State Society DAR of Ohio, 1956."

William was in the 13th Ohio Volunteer Infantry - Civil War.
He married first, Azuleah McNaughton January 30, 1834, and then Amelia Ashbrook, May 11, 1843 in Fairfield Co., Ohio. They had 10 children. I am not aware of any children from his first marriage.
