William Taylor Gale, born 12 October 1878 at Snowflake, Arizona, is the sixth child in a family of fourteen children, the first white child born in Snowflake when the colony of Latter Day Saint people came to Arizona from Utah to start a new settlement.
In 1882 the family moved to Pima, Arizona. In 1885 they moved on into Mexico and lived there at Colonia Diaz until 18 January 1894 when the family moved to Thatcher, Arizona, where sisters Sadie and Hattie were living. They lived there two years, farming the Dick Layton farm, then moved to Franklin, Arizona in November 1896 where Father Gale homesteaded a piece of land and started to help build up a new place where his children could get land for their homes as they grew up. The ditch to water the land took many weeks and months of hard work by the few families who were there. Homes were to be built, churches and school started and buildings to house them. All of these things William took part in helping along with the work.
In 1898 and 1899 he attended the Thatcher Academy, now in 1956 the Eastern Arizona College. July 9, 1899 he was called to fill a mission to the Southern States. July 13th he went to Logan Temple, from there to the mission headquarters at Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was released 9 December 1901 to return home to Franklin, Arizona to help on the farm.
