"John is listed in the 1830 census of New Lebanon, Columbia County, New York, a couple 20-30 without children. This was surely in the "Hand Hollow" area for he was near his father, Jesse, uncle Joseph Hand and great-uncle Lemuel Hand. John was in the same place in 1840 census, and migrated to Walworth County, Wisconsin with his parents and father-in-law in 1841. He was a farmer in Walworth County all his life thereafter. He and his wife belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church."
