Spanish American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the US Navy in New York and served as a Coxswain. His citation reads: "On board the USS Nashville during he operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Hobin displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action".
