Charleston - Manford H. Cox, 75 years old, died Saturday at his home here.
He was born Nov. 12, 1914, in Corning, Ark., the son of George and Mina Jeffords Cox.
He lived in Mississippi County most of his life, where he was the owner and operator of Cox Store in Deventer from 1948 until 1968. He was also a retired farmer and land owner.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 407 AF&AM.
During high school, he was a member of the National Guard. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years He then served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
On May 31, 1936, he married the former Lucille Presson, she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lanie (Ann) Black and Mrs. Edward (Sue) Daugherty; two sisters, Vivian Babb and Alice McKenzie; two half brothers, Wayne and Norman Cox; five half sisters, Mary Stevenson, Vennie Tumbleson, Dorcus Fellows, Sue Mulvaney and Shirley McElyea; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church here. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery.
