William Raymond "Bill" Lewis, 80, of North Powder, died Dec. 24 at a care center in La Grande. A memorial service is being planned for March. Burial will be at North Powder Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Bill was born June 13, 1930, to William and Alma (Baisley) Lewis at Baker City. He attended school in North Powder where he enjoyed football and track. He also attended Oregon State College. He married Patricia Anne Shaw and brought her to the farm where they built a successful business in dairy farming and crop farming.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He was active in the community, serving as Scout leader and a member of the school board. He was affiliated with the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine Lodge. He was a member of the Powder Valley Irrigation District Board and was selected to serve as the irrigation district superintendent of the Pilcher Creek reservoir construction.

Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Greg Lewis of Seattle, Doug Lewis of North Powder, Lisa Lawson of Star, Idaho, and Angela Brown of Meridian, Idaho; brother and spouse, Keith and Sharon Lewis of Heppner; an aunt; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen Raymond Lewis; sister, Madeline Pifher; and brother, Gilbert Luster.

Bill was born June 13, 1930, in Baker City. He was a long-time farmer in North Powder.

Memorial donations may be made to the North Powder Methodist Church or the Wolf Creek Grange, both at P.O. Box 277, North Powder 97867.
