Frederick Hilburn Ray, 76, "Fred" as he was called by his friends and family of Valparaiso went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the VNA Hospice Center.
He was born November 20, 1934, in Melber, Kentucky the son of Leland and Maurine (Head) Ray.
On July 27, 1952 in Michigan City, he married his sweetheart Delores Lee Hamilton who survives in Valparaiso. Fred and Delores renewed their wedding vows October 26, 1975. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he served as head usher for many years. He was a retiree of the Roofer's Union, Local 26, a member of the National Guard, the American Legion Post 94, the Men of the Moose, the Eagles Lodge #2517.
Surviving are his children, Sondra (Robert) Repp of Texas, Rodney Ray (Jamie Schuldt, mother of Claityn) of Wheatfield, Debbie (James) Williamson of Texas, Larry Ray of Valparaiso and Jeff (Jennifer) Ray of Valparaiso, 6 grandchildren James, Jr., Chad, and Chris Williamson, Karis Triem, Claityn and Jacob Ray and 3 great grandchildren, Brooke, Brandon and Hayden Williamson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 older siblings Dalene Durbin, Bill Ray and Glenda Athenas.
Fred was the co-owner of Leslie's Roofing and owner of Ray's Roofing. In the early years enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. He spent many hours playing solitaire and joining his friends for Euchre.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Queen of Apostles Chapel at St. Paul Catholic Church, Rev. Joseph Pawlowski officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 27, 2010, 4-8 PM with a rosary service at 7 PM at Bartholomew Funeral Home.
