Jacob was born 1784 in PA (per his obituary) -- he was baptized
in Middletown (Frederick Co) MD. His parents (Peter Smelser
and Barbara Garnhart) brought family to Bourbon Co KY in 1788.

Jacob married Elizabeth Smith 1811 in Bourbon Co KY before
coming to Wayne Co IN in 1822/1823. Jacob and Elizabeth Smelser
had nine children, all listed below.
