Charles Alexander Coffey, 76, of Indianapolis, formerly of Columbus, died at 9:08 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He retired in 1980 from Cummins Engine Co. where he worked for 39½ years, and then worked for Best Lock Co. in Indianapolis for 14 years.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was a member of Diesel Workers Union and National Rifle Association.
Funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel, on 25th Street with the Rev. Darrell Bowden officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice of charities.
Mr. Coffey was born in Decatur County Aug. 31, 1923, the son of Forrest and Hattie Jane Ponsler Coffey. He married Mildred L. Ferguson May 31, 1946, in Bartholomew County. She died Oct. 8, 1980.
Surviving are daughters, Linda Carroll, Deborah Harris, Vickie Laughner and Rachel Coffey, all of Indianapolis, and Marlene Powell of Carmel; sons, Charles W., Timothy and Michael Lynn Coffey, all of Indianapolis, Terry Wyatt of Seymour and Michael Wyatt of Bedford; sisters, Alberta Coffey of Westport, Bessie Sparks of Louisville and Georgia Dix of Columbus; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Harber; a son, Paul Coffey; and a sister, Edna Asken.
