Leo Richard "Dick" Hamilton, 83, of 422 Frenette Dr., Chippewa Falls, died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at his daughter's house surrounded by his family at his side.

He was born December 13, 1927 in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Leo and Irene (Grindall) Hamilton. He attended St. Thomas Military Academy where he was on the swim team and the crack squad and graduated in 1945. Dick earned a degree in Business Administration from Notre Dame University in 1949.

On March 3, 1951, he married Irene "Sis" Fliehr at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Chippewa Falls.

Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.

He along with his parents operated Hamilton Chevrolet & Buick Car Dealership. He also had Dick Hamilton Buick in Eau Claire. He was a gas sales representative for NSP for 10 years. With his two sons and wife, together they ran the Hamilton Full House. Then he was the mayor of Chippewa Falls for 6 years, starting in 1981 and serving 3 terms. He served as our 67th Assemblyman, starting in 1987, serving also for 3 terms. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council, serving on the Firing Squad and the Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council #974. He was also honored to have a street named after him in the Industrial Park.

He loved to watch Notre Dame Football and the Packers, and also enjoyed drinking coffee at Bresina's and all his friends at the Fill Inn Station.

Dick is survived by: his wife, Sis; two sons, Joseph (Cynthia) Hamilton of Eau Claire and Stephen (Linda) Hamilton of Chippewa Falls; one daughter, Ann (Greg) Dachel of Chippewa Falls; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Meinen of Chippewa Falls and Joanne (Jerome) Anderson of Twin Lakes, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Thomas Fliehr of Chippewa Falls; 6 grandchildren, Andrew and Katie Hamilton, Lori (Eric) Olson, Richard (Jill) Hamilton and Jennifer and Thomas Dachel; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: one daughter, Catherine Irene Hamilton; his parents; one sister, Rita (Thomas) Krebsbach; one brother-in-law, Edward Meinen; one sister-in-law, Jeanne Fliehr; and one granddaughter, Lisa Marie Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. William P. Felix will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, and until 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. There will be a Christian Vigil Service at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
