He was born on July 23, 1926 in Clark County, Indiana, the son of the late John and Della (Dean) Barnes.
Billie was married on May 23, 1954 to Geraldine (Briner) Barnes, who survives.
He was a retired teacher from Vienna Elementary School, where he was also a former principal. Billie was the former Assistant Superintendent for Scott County School District # 2 and also taught at Henryville, Silver Creek, New Washington & Scottsburg schools.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the WW II & the Korean Wars and a member of First Christian Church. He was a graduate of New Washington High School, earned a Bachelor's degree from Hanover College and his Master's degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine (Briner) Barnes; a daughter, Teresa A, Barnes of Carmel, Indiana; a son, Myron (Becky) Barnes of Scottsburg, Indiana; 1 granddaughter, Katy Burke and 3 great grandchildren, Alyssa & Kaytlyn Burke and Daniel Richie and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Barnes and five brothers, Robert, Jess, Clarence, John & Edward Barnes.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Barnes Cemetery near Nabb, Indiana.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Tuesday and after 9 am Wednesday. Memorial Contributions: Alzheimer's Research Foundation c/o Collins Funeral Home.
