CALEB STORY

John Caleb Story was born in the state of Illinois, March 24, 1845. He was one of eighteen children, of whom the following still remain: David Story and Mrs. D. Jordan(Sarah Story Jordan), of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. J.D. Graham, of Nez Perce, Idaho, and Mrs. Mary Masters, of Goldendale, Washington.

The family moved to the Northwest in the year 1864, settling in or near Hillsboro, Oregon, and in the year 1872 they came to Klickitat, Wash., where Mr. Story has since resided.
He was united in matrimony in 1876 to Miss Mary J. Young, who became the mother of his children, eight of whom are living, as follows: Thomas Story, of Yakima County; Mrs. Grace Slaughter, of Portland, Oregon; Paul, of Seattle; and Daniel, Grover, Clyde and Oren Story and Mrs. Richard Dingmon, of this county.

Mr. Story's wife died in September, 1894, 2 days after Paul's birth, since which time he has lived with his daughter, Mrs. Dingmon.

Mr. Story was not seriously sick until about September 2nd and he died September 4th, at the age of 67 years and a few months.

He was an ardent member of the Masonic Fraternity and stood high as a man in the esteem of many who knew him best. He was especially characterized with evenness of temper and patience. On being informed by the physician that he had but a short time to live, he manifested no fear of the future. His funeral service was conducted at the Chapman Undertaking Parlors by William DeWeese the recent pastor of the Goldendale Methodist church, and his body was laid to rest by the Goldendale Masonic Fraternity.

His children wish to take this means of thanking the neighbors and friends for the many acts of kindness shown their beloved father and them during the last illness and death of the father.
