Karin C. Ostrom Nelson
Karin C. Ostrom Nelson, 98, of Erie, died Friday, December 24, 2010, at Westlake Woods Assisted Living. She was born April 24, 1912, in Erie, daughter of the late Oscar and Charlotte Jacobson Ostrom.
A lifelong resident of Erie, she graduated first in her class from Academy High School in 1928. She was also a graduate of Erie Conservatory of Music and Erie Business College.
Mrs. Nelson assisted her husband in the operation of the Edgar M. Nelson Funeral Home for forty years, retiring in 1978.
A member of Luther Memorial Church, she had been a lifelong member of the former Bethany Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Martha Circle and LCW. She was a member of SVEA Lodge, No. 296, VASA Order of America and Gridley Chapter No. 324 Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Edgar M. Nelson in 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith K. (Judy) Johnson and husband, Ronald of Erie; a son, David E. Nelson and wife, Payoun of Santa Maria, Calif.; two granddaughters, Malee Nelson and husband, Kevin Kaden of Santa Maria, Calif. and Panida Baumheckel and husband, Lloyd of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandsons, Brian Johnson and wife, Carol of Erie, David Johnson and wife, Lori of Sharpsville, Pa. and Mark Johnson and wife, Kristy of Glenmoore, Pa.; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several cousins.
Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home. A service will be held there Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Coleman of Luther Memorial Church officiating.
Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
