Died Tuesday Afternoon At His Residence At 3008 Camp. He Was 71. Funeral Services Will Be Conducted At
2 P. M. Wednesday At The House Of Bultman, 3338 St. Charles. Interment Will Be In St. Louis Cemetery
No. 3. Alcee Fortier, A Distinguished Historian And Educator, Mr. Fortier Has Held A Wide Variety Of
Business, Civil And Public Positions, Including The Presidency Of The Louisiana State Museum Board. A
Graduate Of The Old College Of The Immaculate Conception And Of The Tulane University School Of Law, He
Served As A State Representative From 1915 To 1920. He Was A Member Of The State Constitutional
Convention Of 1921. Filled High Post He Was President Of The Orleans Parish Public School Board From
1922 Until 1926, When He Became Chairman For Two Years Of The State Insurance Commission. From 1931 To
1934, He Was First A Member, And Later President, Of The New Orleans Public Library Board. In The Years
1930 - 39 He Was President Of The New Orleans Vocational Guidance Association. In 1939, He Served As
President Of The Member's Council Of The Association Of Commerce. The A. Of C. Was A Forerunner To
Today's Chamber Of Commerce Of The New Orleans Area. In The Business World, His Positions Included The
Presidency Of Investors Finance Corporation And More Recently A Sales Position With Guy L. Deano, Inc.,
A Real Estate Firm. He Lectured Extensively On History And Finance, Wrote Historical And Financial
Articles For Magazines, Edited Historical And Biographical Booklets For The State Museum, Wrote Radio
Scripts And Served As A Commentator On Radio Programs Concerning Historical Events. He Was President Of
The Museum Board From 1934 To 1940 And Was Elected Anew To The Position In 1948 When Earl K. Long Was
Elected Governor. He Served Until 1952 And Stayed In As Curator In Charge Of Exhibits And Historical
Phases Of Museum Activities Until 1953. Under Former Mayor Robert S. Maestri, He Became Historian Of
The Archives Of New Orleans In 1944. The Post Was Abolished In 1946 By The Then Incoming Mayor, De
Lesseps S. Morrison. Practicing Attorney He Also Served As A Director Of L'alliance, Franco -
Louisianaise, A Member Of The Louisiana Arts Commission, A Consultant In History To The Louisiana Parks
Commission, And As A Director Of The Chalmette National Historical Park Association. He Was Also A
Practicing Attorney Here. Survivors Include His Widow, The Former Isabella De Solanas Y Del Boxes; Two
Sons, Alcee J. J. Fortier And Jacques Lanauze Fortier; A Daughter, Mrs. Daniel Renon Brown; A Sister
