U.S. ARMY DURING THE KOREAN CONFLICT.

He was affectionately known as "Gene" or "Professor". Gene was born in Clarksville, Virginia where he was raised and attended public schools. He attended Virginia State University and received his Bachelor of Art and Masters Degree from The Juilliard of Manhattan School of Music. He worked for the New York Board of Education and later became a band director. Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ann Yancey of Friendswood, Texas; two daughters, Karen Alexander of New York and Tina Crutchfield of Houston, Texas; two sons, Elliott Yancey of Australia and Caleb Yancey of New York; three stepsons, Melvin Jackson, Kevin Jackson and Arnold Jackson all of New York; his sisters, Lucille Hopkins of Clarksville, Virginia and Onie Poole of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Leroy Yancey of Philadelphia and Raymond Yancey of New York; 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
