Daniel was born in La Joya, NM to Jose Gabriel Valdes and
Maria Juana Montoya. He moved his family to Alamosa, CO in 1901 to work for the D&RG railroad. They owned a home at the corner of West and Main St. Here he raised 11 children with his devoted wife, Manuelita Tapia Valdes.
