Carroll John William Pope was born on June 3, 1939 in Pella, Iowa. He was the son of Charles William and Ada Zegers Pope. Carroll attended the Pella Public Schools and when he was a senior in high school he began working at Rolscreen Company in Pella. He graduated with the Class of 1957. In 1961 he was united in marriage with Ruby Mae Vaner Hart and to this union two children were born: Jack and Cathy Lynn. Ruby passed away in 1968 at the age of 24 years. In 1969 Carroll and Edith Mae(DeJong)Van Dusseldorp were united in marriage. Carroll and his two children, Jack and Cathy Pope, Edith and her three children, Brian Dean, Bradley Dean and Brenda Kay Van Dusseldorp, became a blended family. Carroll continued to be a devoted factory employeed at Pella Corporation for 43 years. This employment proved to be a positive experience for both him and now his wife, Edith. With time to spare, Carroll enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and racing. He was a sprint car and NASCAR fan. Carroll's retirement was impacted by physical health issues. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2010, he passed away at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa at the age of 71 years. Carroll is survived by his wife, Edith; their four children and their families. They are: Jack and Ronda Pope of Pella, Iowa, Ryan, Brock; Cathy and David Jones of Waukee, Iowa, Alex, Dylan, Whitney, Gavin; Bradley and Marsha Van Dusseldorp of Pella, Iowa, Melissa,, Amanda; Brenda and Eric Sickels of Des Moines, Iowa, Jalen, Keslie. Carroll's family includes eight great-grandchildren along with his sister and her husband, Marcia and John McConeghey of Monroe, Iowa; and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Elsie(De Jong) and Dwayne Van Kooten of Denver, Colorado, Francis and Cleora De Jong of Leighton, Iowa. Carroll was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; a step-son, Brian Dean Van Dusseldorp; his parents, Charlie Pope and Ada(Pope)Holmes; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alvin and Arlene De Jong. Carroll was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella and promoter of Pheasants Forever.
