The last rites were said for a beloved citizen of Roanoke Island Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. Nannie Cudworth Midgett went to her final rest in the Manteo Cemetery. Mrs. Midgett died Saturday at 6:15 p.m. after a long illness at the home of a foster son, Luther H. Daniels near Philadelphia.

She is survived by two other sons: Boyd L. Midgett of Tuckertown, NJ and Samuel E. Midgett of Manteo. Mrs. Midgett had lived at Manteo for the past 50 years, the wife of the late Samuel E. Midgett, who was once Clerk of Dare Superior Court, daughter of the late Lewellyn and Rebecca Creef Cudworth of Wanchese where she was born October 12, 1886.

She was a faithful member of the Roanoke Island Chapter OES and of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Manteo. She had always been an exceptional wife, mother, citizen, neighbor, leader in community affairs, having served in various capacities with the schools, welfare work, her church circles, and other positions.

She is survived by three sisters at Wanchese: Mrs. Nettie Daniels, Mrs. Lora Creef and Mrs. Arvilla Midgett; and by two brothers: Vance Cudworth of Manteo and George Cudworth of Norfolk.

Rev. Louis A. Aitken, the Manteo pastor, assisted by Rev. C.W. Guthrie of Wanchese, conducted the funeral services Tuesday. The choir sang "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Rock of Ages" and John H. Long sang a solo, "God's Tomorrow". Mrs. Rennie Williamson was the organist. The pall was made of pink and white carnations.

Active pallbearers were Robert Ballance, Edward Wescott, Edwin Midgett, H.O. Bridges, Willett Tillett and Frank Cahoon. Honorary pallbearers were: Leo Midgett, O.J. Jones, John D. O'Neal, A.Clark Mann, W.B. Fearing, and W.F. Baum.
