Hon. Melvin Porter Frank graduated from Tufts College in 1865 and was admitted to the bar in 1868. On October 5, 1869, he married Susan A. Humphrey of Gray, the daughter of Henry Pennell Humprhey. Mr. Frank became prominent as a lawyer in Portland. He was a trustee of Pennell Institute and of Westbrook Seminary. In 1878 he was elected as a Representative to the State Legislature and was its speaker in 1879. He ran as a Democrat for Congress in 1890 and for Governor in 1896.
