Tom Perkins, a long time resident of Pine Canyon, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 surrounded by his family the evening of Nov. 13, 2007.
Tom was born in Moab, to David Martin and Laura Emeline Perkins on Sept. 25, 1926. He was the 11th of 13 children. He married Darlene McNicol on Aug. 9, 1947, in Elko, Nev. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 9, 1956. Tom joined the Navy and served in Okinawa during WWII. He retired from the Tooele Army Depot after 36 years of dedicated service. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan, coach and participant. He especially enjoyed playing softball which he did until he was 69 years old. He loved to garden and raise animals. The highlight of his life was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene; son, Tom (Susan); and daughters, Deborah (Keith) Davis, Lorna (Ray) Stewart, Patricia (Jeff) Banks and Sandra (LaVell) Holt. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren (soon to be 19). Surviving brothers and sister are Billy Perkins, Clyde Perkins and Joy Brocherdt.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at 1 p.m. in the Westland LDS Ward building, 1030 S. 900 West, Tooele. A viewing will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment in the Tooele City Cemetery.
