Medford W. Ostrum, 88, Altoona, died Fri., Dec. 24, 2010 at home. He was born in Emporium to Medford G. & Margaret (Rutz) Ostrum. He married Mary A. Shoup on May 2, 1942. Survived by wife; 3 daughters: Gail E. Vergason, of Hickory, NC; M. Lynn Ostrum, of Altoona and Mona A. Rogers, of Bellwood; son, Dale M. Ostrum, of Anacortes, WA; 9 grandchildren; 14 gr. grandchildren; and sister, Peggy Kazuk, of St. Cloud, FL. Mr. Ostrum was a 1940 graduate of Emporium High School. He retired March 1, 1988, from Philips ECG Inc. as manager of production planning with 47 years of service. Member, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altoona. He served as asst. scoutmaster, scoutmaster and dist. commissioner in Emporium and Brookville; and served in the DuBois Dist. and Elklick Council, Bradford, as a commissioner. In 1973, he began serving the Tuckahoe District of the Penn Woods Council as a roundtable commissioner, district commissioner and dist. chairman. He served as president, council commissioner and member of the executive board and advisory council for the Penn Woods Council. He received the Silver Beaver Award and St. George Award in Scouting. He was also a grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Brookville, and member and vice president of the Kiwanis Club, Brookville and Emporium. Santella Funeral Home, Altoona.
