Harold "Hal" Tillotson was born and raised in Hendersonville, NC. He was awarded a basketball scholarship to Baylor University, where he ultimately matriculated with a degree in music. After college, Hal met and married Nancy Lee Tucker and the couple ultimately relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where they raised three children, two daughters (Teresa Lynn and Susan Annette) and one son (Scott Randolph, deceased in 2009). For a time Harold taught high school music and engaged in other endeavors, as well as forming the popular "Hal Tillotson and the Sounds Interesting Orchestra" which performed for many years throughout the metropolitan area. Hal was athletic, enjoying tennis and golf. After being diagnosed with an aggressive form of multiple myeloma in late 1994, Hal valiantly fought the good fight, but ultimately succumbed to his illness at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville. At his death, he was survived by Nancy, his three children, three grandchildren (and one on the way), as well as his loving mother, Eunice Tillotson (nee Bennett) of Hendersonville, NC (deceased 2004), and his amazing siblings, Laura Virginia Tillotson of Brevard and James L. Tillotson of Charlotte (married to Judy), along with numerous cousins and other relatives.
