She was born in Duncansville, daughter of the late Paul and Caroline (Brunner) Heiss.
Surviving are a brother, Frank and wife, Rita, of Munster; several nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Mercy.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Anna, Rose, Betty and Lena; and seven brothers: Joseph, Paul, John, Carl, Albert, Raymond and William.
Sister Mary graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and then from College Misericordia, Dallas, with a bachelor's degree in music education. She received her master's degree in music from Columbia University, New York, and used her musical talent to teach as well as to entertain at many joyful gatherings. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on Sept. 8, 1937, and professed her vows on March 12, 1940. Sister Mary taught in the dioceses of Allentown, Altoona-Johnstown and Brooklyn.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto. Committal will be in Sisters of Mercy Cemetery, Cresson.
