Sylvia Esther Carlson, 93, of Hibbing died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, in the University Medical Center–Mesabi. She was born July 29, 2917, in Kinney, the daughter of Gust and Hilma (Heino) Alto; and was a 1935 graduate of Cherry High School.

She married Raynold Carlson on Jan. 31, 1948, in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hibbing and was a longtime Hibbing resident. She owned and operated the Giant Wash Laundromat in Virginia with her husband Raynold and also was a clerk in the Hibbing Co-op Store. Sylvia was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hibbing, National Association of Railroad Employees, Hibbing Senior Citizens, and the auxiliaries of the DAV and the Ex-POW groups.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Raynold; son-in-law, Brian Wilson; grandson, David Scott Wilson; and several nieces and nephews including her special niece, Linda (Paul) Sundquist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carlene Wilson; grandson, Keith Brian Wilson; three brothers and a sister.

Interment in Maple Hill Cemetery.
