The village had been previously known by many other names, predominantly called Merrimack. Bradford's east parish broke away in the year 1850 and was inc. as Groveland, carrying that name into the present day. What was left of Bradford was absorbed by the city of Haverhill in 1897. Bradford remains a village of Haverhill to this day.
