Robert O. Althouse, 28, of Hancock, Mertztown, who was employed as a sprayer by the Electro-Chemical Supply and Manufacturing Company, Emmaus, died yesterday in Allentown Hospital of internal injuries caused in a Monday afternoon explosion.

A navy veteran of World War II, Althouse was employed at the plant for the past year. Prior to that time, he worked for the Parish Pressed Steel Company here.

Born in Topton, he was a son of Rachel (Knauss) Althouse Dalton and the late Walter Althouse.

He is survived by his mother, who resides in Topton; his widow, Ruth R. (Dankel) Althouse; two sons: Robert Joseph and Randy Todd, both at home; two brothers: Ralph, Topton, and Niles, Mertztown; two sisters: Betty, wife of Claude Fairchild, and June, wife of Richard Gillmer, Lenhartsville; and a grandfather, Ralph Knauss, near Topton.
