He was the son of John Leftrich Thomas born 15 Sep 1848 Grayson Co., VA. died Sep 10 1924 Wythe Co., VA. s/o Archelaus Archibald Thomas / Eliza Jane Hill and Mary Etta Dunford born July 1869 Black Lick, Wythe Co., VA. died Jan 1947 Wythe Co., VA. d/o William Dunford / Louisa Elizabeth Boyd.

This Thomas line can be traced back to my 9th great grandfather, William Ap Massey Thomas born abt 1613 Wales died abt 1665 Yeacimco Parish Northumberland, VA.

This Hill Line can be traced back to my 11th great grandfather, Capt. Thomas Edward Hill born abt 1612 England died 1659 Essex Lodge, York Co., VA

I was only 5 years old when my great-grandfather died...but what an impression this man made in my life.

I can still hear him praying in the middle of the night. Now that I'm older I know that his burden for the next generation was heavy.

His land was rolling hills with many fruit trees, that he had planted. He would take me for walks, pick an apple off tree, sit down on a rock or stump, take his whittling knife out of his pocket and say "Come sit beside me" and we would sit there sharing the apple.

He had two homes on that land, which still stand today. He had the little house and the big house. He built the little house to live in while he built the big house, cutting the trees on his land, hauling them to the saw mill and hauling them back again. All while he work the land, took care of his livestock so his could provide food for his family. What a man !!!

If the story was told, only heaven knows but his hat seemed to me like an old halo.....but I thought he walked on water. I will see you again, in heaven !!!!
