Nancy L. Holland,longtime resident of the Arkansas Valley passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2011 after a lengthy illness just over a week shy of her 76th birthday. Nancy was the first child born to Charles and Alice Craig on May 5, 1935 at their homestead in White Horse, Oklahoma. When Nancy was still a toddler, the Craig's moved to Timpas, Colorado and soon after to LaJunta, where Nancy met her future husband, Clyd L. Holland. They were married September 1, 1954. Nancy worked for many years for the telephone company as an operator and then in the business office. She and Clyde operated a Trucking Company and the Holland Flying Service until Clyde's death in 1997. Nancy continued working as a bookkeeper for Chester Bay Trucking until health problems necessitated her retirement.
Nancy is survived by her sisters, Shirley Lazor of Colorado Springs; Joyce Aregi of Denver; brother Gary Craig of Colorado Springs; daughter, Sherry(Abe) Garcia of Santa Fe, NM; son, Merrell(Mary Sue) Holland of Swink; five grandchildren, Matthew Holland, Luke(Stephany) Holland, Jaimee(Daniel) Jackson, Meredith & Allison Garcia; and seven great-grandchildren, Taiylor, Tierra & Trevin Holland; Kaiden, Keaton, & Kamdyn Holland and Kyleigh Jackson.
Nancy was aloving mother and grandmother who never lost her sense of humor despite her health. She will be greatly missed. As per Nancy's request cremation will take place and she will be interred at the Fairview Cemetery with her husband Clyde and father-in-law, Merrell Holland. Nancy has lived at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center due to failing health and Alzheimer's, where she has received loving care for the last three years.
Memorial service will be Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 2 pm at the Peacock Memorial Chapel.
